Kyle Denis

Kyle is a staff writer at Billboard, specializing in reggae/dancehall, R&B/hip-hop, pop and country music. Previously, his work has appeared in NPR, Okayplayer and UPROXX; he also does part-time TV criticism for Polygon. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Kyle spent some time in North Carolina, where he graduated from Duke University with a double major in English and political science. Perhaps best known for founding and writing for The Bulletin, an online music and entertainment publication that ran for six years, his writing tends to focus on the intersection of music, race, politics and culture. Since joining Billboard in 2023, Kyle has written several cover stories — including Sexyy Red, Latto and Shaboozey — and conducted on-the-ground reporting at major events such as Grenada’s annual Spicemas carnival and the 2024 Democratic National Convention. When he’s not writing, Kyle is probably making an impromptu a cappella arrangement of whatever song is stuck in his head on a given day. He can be found on Instagram (@k.b.denis), X (@WordsByKyle) and LinkedIn.
